KUNSTENAARSGESPREKKEN
CONTOUR 2013 IN MEI EN JUNI

Naar aanloop van de 6de Biënnale voor Bewegend Beeld (24.08 – 03.11.2013) organiseert de Academie van Mechelen een aantal kunstenaarsgesprekken in samenwerking met Contour.

Op woensdag 22 mei bijt Steven Op de Beeck, directeur van Contour, de spits af. Hij geeft een introductie op de biënnale.

Daarna komt de Zweedse kunstenares Petra Bauer aan het woord. Zij zal het hebben over haar artistieke praktijk en de nieuwe productie die zij voor Contour 2013 zal realiseren: ‘Choreografie voor de reuzen’, een kunstwerk over de Mechelse Ommegang, de stadsstoet die om de 25 jaar in Mechelen doorgaat.

Op maandag 24 juni komen maar liefst twee artiesten aan bod. De Braziliaanse kunstenaar Pablo Pijnappel geeft uitleg over de projecten die hij voor Contour 2013 in en rond de gevangenis van Mechelen zal verwezenlijken.

Daarna vertelt de Britse performancekunstenaar Giles Bailey over de workshop ‘storytelling’ die hij samen met Pablo Pijnappel in de gevangenis zal geven. Bailey zal ook dieper ingaan op een aantal van zijn recente performances.

In de herfst volgt een tweede reeks kunstenaarsgesprekken.

CONTOUR 2013 ARTIST TALKS
IN MAY AND JUNE

In the lead-up to the 6th Biennial of Moving Image (24 August-3 November 2013) the Mechelen Academy of Fine Arts is organising a series of artist talks in collaboration with Contour.

On Wednesday 22 May, Steven Op de Beeck, director of Contour, will give an introduction to the biennial. This will be followed by a lecture by the Swedish artist Petra Bauer, who will talk about her artistic practice and the new production she is creating for Contour 2013: ‘Choreography for the Giants’, an artwork about the Ommegang city parade, which takes place in Mechelen every 25 years.

On Monday 24 June two more artists will present their projects for Contour 2013. The Brazilian artist Pablo Pijnappel will discuss the projects he is developing in and around the prison of Mechelen. In addition, the British performance artist Giles Bailey will speak about the ‘storytelling’ workshop that he will be giving at the prison together with Pablo Pijnappel. Bailey will also elaborate on his practice as a performer.

More artist talks will follow in the autumn.
