Kunstenaarslezingen in oktober

Op maandag 7 oktober organiseert Contour in samenwerking met de Academie van Mechelen een kunstenaarslezing. Zowel Sarah Vanhee (BE) als Paul Hendrikse (NL) vertellen over hun artistieke praktijk en over de kunstwerken die ze tijdens Contour 2013 presenteren in Mechelen.

Op woensdag 16 oktober is Contour te gast bij boekhandel De Zondvloed: misdaadauteur Arne Dahl (SE) leest voor uit De wonderbare visvangst, het kortverhaal dat hij voor Contour 2013 schreef. Dahl geeft bovendien meer uitleg over zijn vorige romans en zijn bijdrage aan de biënnale.

Contour 2013 in de pers

Zowel op televisie (Vlaanderen Vakantieland, één), op cobra.be en in de geschreven pers uit binnen- en buitenland kwam de biënnale uitgebreid aan bod:

De kunstenaars hebben niet ontgoocheld. Vanuit hun individuele ervaring en fantasie illustreren ze de rijkdom van het gegeven. Het merendeel van de gepresenteerde werken is kersvers en werd in opdracht van Contour gemaakt. … De toeschouwers krijgen het gevoel dat een wereld voor hen wordt geopend. Met haar zesde editie is Contour, de biënnale voor bewegend beeld in Mechelen, niet enkel gegroeid - noblesse oblige -maar ook volwassener geworden. Het zwaartepunt van de tentoonstelling ligt nu op één plek en zwermt niet langer uit over de stad - twee of drie satellieten niet te na gesproken. Samenwerking met andere biënnales plaatst het in een internationaal verband. - <H>ART

In de nieuwe, ondergrondse zaal van het Hof van Busleyden werd voor de gelegenheid een architectonische constructie geïnstalleerd die aan de grondstructuur van zowel een sportarena, de binnenplaats van een gevangenis als (met wat goede wil) het middenschip van een kerk doet denken. Er zitten prangende werken bij. … Een stomp in de maag is I Screamed and I Screamed and I Screamed: een hok, een video still van een gevangenismuur, vier geluidstapes met geschreeuw. - Knack

Meer ‘VRIJE TIJD, DISCIPLINE EN STRAF’ in Mechelen

Voor wie méér van de gevangenis of de stad Mechelen wil zien, slaat Contour de handen in elkaar met een aantal partners.

Vormingplus organiseert in de periode oktober - november Rondom Prison, een gratis traject waarbij je in etappes kennis maakt met de gevangenis van Mechelen: een wandeling in de stad rond het thema detentie, een rondleiding in de gevangenis, een ontmoeting met gedetineerden en een slotavond. Inschrijven kan aan de ticketbalie van Contour of via Vormingplus.

Artist talks in October

On Monday 7 October Contour is organising an artist talk in collaboration with the Mechelen Academy of Fine Arts. Sarah Vanhee (BE) and Paul Hendrikse (NL) will speak about their artistic practices and about the artworks they are presenting at Contour 2013.

On Wednesday 16 October bookstore De Zondvloed hosts Contour. Crime writer Arne Dahl (SE) will be reading from The Miraculous Draught of Fishes, the short story he has written especially for Contour 2013. Dahl will also talk about his other works and his contribution to the biennial.

Contour 2013 in the press

The biennial has been widely covered on television (Vlaanderen Vakantieland, één), on cobra.be and in the written press in Belgium and abroad:

The artists didn’t disappoint. From their individual experiences and fantasies, they illustrate the richness of the given theme. Most of the works being presented are brand new and commissioned by Contour. … The visitors get the feeling that a world is being opened up for them. Only a few artworks manage to do this. With its sixth edition Contour, the biennial of moving image in Mechelen, has not only grown – noblesse oblige – but has also matured. The centre of gravity of the exhibition now lies in one space and is no longer spread across the city – except for two or three satellites. For the occasion a new architectonic construction was installed in the new, underground space of the Court of Busleyden. It recalls the ground structure of a sports arena as well as the courtyard of a prison and (with some good will) the nave of a church. More ‘Leisure, Discipline and Punishment’ in Mechelen

For those who want more of Mechelen’s prison or the city itself, Contour joins forces with several partners.

In October and November you can take part in Rondom Prison, a series of events organised by Vormingplus, comprising of a walk in the city on the theme of detention, a guided tour of the prison, a meeting with prisoners and a special evening to round it all off.
